Flora’s Floodlight Frolic
Flora stealthily tip-toed through the empty ice rink centre one crisp, cold night. The moon shone over her questioningly, tilting its head slightly as it curiously observed her. She made sure she wasn’t being followed, before slipping inside the centre and hurrying her way over to the electric room. After switching on the blinding floodlights, she knew she only had approximately three to five minutes before she gets caught.
Adrenaline kicking in, she wasted no more precious time.
Slipping her feet into her skates, Flora elegantly pushed herself through the centre of the rink, and took a deep, comforting breath. She outstretched her arms slowly, and tilted her head back to drink in the profound light shining down on her, and her only. The moment she exhaled, she broke out into a frolic under the floodlights.
Her sturdy legs moved her forward, propelling her into the air as she spun around in lightning speed, so gracefully, it was almost unbelievable. She hummed softly to herself, and nodded her head along, as she raised her arms in the air over her head, and lifted one leg in the air, while the other expertly tilted her sideways as she took a sharp turn in the ice rink. She then jumped up in the air again, spinning five times in the air, before successfully landing her feet on the ice once again, her skates elegantly taking her forward across the ice.
She heavily relied on the floodlights fueling her little dance. Her skin was tickled by its touch, undoubtedly feeding her with confidence as she shone brightly underneath it. Therefore, the moment the floodlights began to flicker, Flora’s eyes snapped open from her peaceful trance as she danced, and they whipped round to the security guard stood right outside the rink with his arms crossed over his chest, a disapproving look on his face.
“How many times will you be doing this to us, Flora? That’s the fifth time you break in now.”
Flora couldn’t help but laugh when she halted her movement, and cheekily replied, “Maybe change the locks and it’ll take me longer to figure out how to sneak in?”
Frank, the security guard, rolled his eyes. “Out you go, and if you ever dare sneak in again, I’ll make sure your mother knows of this.”
“Empty threats, Frank. Not a nice look on you.” She teased as she exited the ice rink, and Frank sighed and shook his head.
“You liked my performance though, come on — admit it.” She persisted.
Frank finally cracked into a grin as he led her outside the ice rink centre. “I must admit, with the floodlights emphasising your performance, it really was a peaceful performance.”
Flora grinned happily, and walked back home knowing she would go back to that ice rink again tomorrow night, and revel in the warmth and brightness the floodlights provided her with, making her feel like the only person walking on this earth.
