Locket Locking Lies
Sienna was never seen without her silver locket dangling in a dainty chain around her neck. As far as anyone knew, she never took it off, and no one had a clue why; sometimes the locket looked absolutely horrendous over the clothes she wore. Every time someone would ask why she chooses to wear the locket in such situations, Sienna would simply shrug them off, her lips sealed shut into a thin line, resolute on not uttering a single word.
It was a lovely silver locket, hand-carved with complex patterns woven together to form a small shape of a heart. People would let the overpowering curiosity swallow them whole as they imagined what was held inside the locket every time Sienna was spotted clicking it open and glancing down at it before napping it shut once again. Sienna often found their inquisitive gazes quite vexing, for she saw no reason for them to be so intrigued by her and her locket.
It made her secret far more difficult for her to keep hidden from prying eyes. You see, Sienna’s locket was no ordinary locket. It was so much more than an accessory; it was a dangerous instrument of truth, hunting for lies.
It was the locket which locked lies to unveil them to whoever wore it.
When no one was gazing at her piercingly like a hawk hunting its prey, Sienna tentatively opened her locket, and smiled down at the small, swirling pool of letters swimming inside.
She swiftly whispered, “what have you got for me?”
Her eyes watched in fascination as the letters resting inside the locket shifted deliberately to form a sentence, and Sienna quickly shut the locket, and patiently waited. Less than a minute later, her eyes widened as she heard the accessory whisper into her ear.
“Your friend Avery lied about being sick just she wouldn’t go out for lunch with you.” It tranquilly stated.
Sienna clenched her jaw angrily as she felt a pang of betrayal stab her heart.
“I knew it.” She seethed.
She trudged furiously along the busy streets of the city, her livid eyes seeing red as Sienna fought the urge to ring her friend and yell on the line. Suddenly, without warning, someone came barreling at Sienna aggressively, crashing into her side with no remorse, causing her to gasp in shock and pain.
“Watch it, you blithering idiot!” Sienna whined in frustration, rubbing her shoulder soothingly, before moving forward.
By the time Sienna had gotten home, she’d forgotten all about her friend’s lie. She sighed in exhaustion as she sat at the edge of her bed, and felt herself feel the worry creep its way through her veins and traveling all over her body. She wondered in concern whether her friend was alright, because she knew Avery wouldn’t lie to her without a valid reason.
Sienna fished her phone out of her purse and quickly dialed her friend’s number. After a long conversation between the two friends, Sienna had come to find out about her friend’s struggles that have taken a massive toll on her. As a result, Avery naturally locked herself away from her friends, shutting everyone out so she could deal with her hardships on her own.
Feeling tremendously guilty for not spotting this sooner to help her friend, Sienna had listened to Avery cry her heart out over the phone to her, and she did everything she could in that moment to help. She couldn’t believe how angry she’d been on her way home without even trying to understand the full narrative of the situation.
She allowed the locket locking lies to lull her into a ludicrous whirlpool of hasty judgments. When her hand reached up to hold the locket, her palm touched the air, and Sienna frowned perplexedly. As she glanced down to peer at the locket, she gasped as she realised it was not hanging down her neck in the chain it was attached to.
The locket was gone.
Sienna leapt from her seat on the bed and scoured her apartment, in search of her magical locket, however, much to her dismay it was nowhere to be found.
Her heart sank to her knees when she remembered bumping harshly against a stranger on her way home. Surely, that must’ve been when her locket had fallen off and she hadn’t noticed.
She huffed while her hands rested against her hips. The longer she thought about it, the more relieved she felt that she had lost the locket. Although this was her most prized possession, and was quite useful on many occasions, it also almost jeopardised a friendship she truly cherished. Sienna couldn’t bear the thought of losing her best friend, and so, she was glad to have gotten rid of the locket.
Meanwhile, Boisterous Benjamin was in for a treat for curiously picking up Sienna’s locket after bumping into her…
